Lonely People

There are so many things I could share, there is one thing that has been heavy on my heart recently. Loneliness. The word itself embodies a sadness that lies within each of us. No matter where we are in our lives, we experience this. The hardest times is when one is laying in their bed and reality hits. Doesn’t matter if one is single, or lost their partner in life, or married, or in a relationship; loneliness impacts all of us.

Sometimes, I find myself stuck on how to pray. There are times when I ask, “God, how do I seek you in this, how do I give this to you, how do I even pray about this intense feeling of loneliness?” Yes, it is true God is always with us. There is a wall that prevents me from being at lost for words, that is the fact that God is a Spirit. Yes, he uses people, no question about that. Often it’s the simple things we long for, holding hands, being held and those simple touches of affection that are part of how God created us.

I wrote a poem. Titled “Praying for the Lonely People” When I don’t know how to pray, I pray through poetry.

Lord I pray for all the lonely people
Without a hand to hold
Sadness to dark to behold
Invisible in a crowded room
Screaming loud to a deaf world
Reaching out grabbing nothing
Holograms passing through
Internal tears won’t stop
Seeking anything for love
Lord I pray for all us lonely people
Jesus grab our hand to hold
Hope so radiant to behold
Known by someone in the room
Heard by someone in this world
Held, to them I’m not nothing
Times of loneliness are through
Where the laughter never stops
Overwhelmed by your love
Lord I give you all us lonely people
Your truth we can hold
Humbly we behold
Our home in your heavenly room
Spirit forever the companion of the world
Child of God, a comparison is nothing
Jesus said it is through
His love for us ceases to stop
Never lonely in your love

One of the amazing things about God, is that He wants us to come to Him when we don’t know how. Sometimes we need to allow ourselves to feel lonely to find God, to find peace, to experience a deep intimate love that reaches beyond holding hands, being held and those simple touches of affection. It’s not something that can be explained nor is there a step by step process. It’s something that one learns as one grows in relationship with God, Jesus and Holy Spirit. As I write this, I am praying for all us lonely people. In those lonely moments, may His love for you become so real it captivates your heart and you can’t help but smile.
