Risky Prayers
Risky prayers… what does that mean? For me, it’s for something that seems impossible and beyond my control. Something that appears “un-logical,” a perfect fit for our LORD’s majesty to radiate bright heavenly glory.
So what did I pray for today? Harmony in our country and in our world. I prayed that we could come together as human beings, strip away the outward barriers of power, greed, politics, religion, ethnicity, anything that puts pride in place of humbling ourselves to work together in harmony.
In the Beatitudes, Jesus says “blessed are the peacemakers…” Where are our peacemakers? Why have we let our prideful barriers take the place of working together in peaceful harmony? We all want what’s best for our country and our world. Fighting with prideful barriers, only makes the entire situation worse for everyone. No one benefits.
I took a risk and prayed. I didn’t pray for a specific decision. I didn’t pray for a political agenda. I didn’t pray for my desires to be written in law. I prayed that we could work together. I prayed for humble hearts, open minds, respectful voices, helping hands focusing on hope, on unity, on something that impacts not just oneself, but an entire country, also affecting an entire world. I prayed knowing that only God has the power, the wisdom, the grace, the forgiveness and the unconditional love to transform hearts, minds, bodies and souls.
I love risky prayers. They are beyond my small little world. Beyond my own personal desires. Risky prayers allow the Holy Spirit to speak through me, with a little taste of the the love and passion that our Heavenly Father has for His people. Yahweh loves and adores each one of us. If we would allow ourselves to see each each person as a creation of God, we might have a chance at something called world peace.
